Minimalistic design apartment in Tel Aviv

7 december 2015 | By | One Comment

Pleasing eyes and ears: Stockholm by Vifa

12 augustus 2015 | By | One Comment

18 februari 2015 | By | 4 Comments

Hieronder mijn favoriete SINNERLIG producten!

Monday Mood: Back To Basics

15 september 2014 | By | One Comment

He designed this collection for microliving that meets contemporary need for sharing functions in small spaces. The other two pieces are a stand with a mini wardrobe function, and a cart you can use as a table with storage space. All pieces are designed with a minimal vision, solid alder wood and an iron rod structure.

Meet Hank a.k.a. ‘The Pocket’

9 juli 2014 | By | One Comment

With Hank you easily turn yourself into 007 at just any party… Exactly, this fashionable gadget gives your suit a big plus. Hank is the pocket square with a pocket! The pocket square, originally born in the USA got redeveloped to a modern ‘man’ in the United Kingdom. Masterfully tailored from silk and cotton with room for your essentials. The pocket got space for your glasses, cash, cards or your telephone – fashion meets function! I never had the ambition to be a true gentleman in a suit, but this fashion accessory is a game-changer! And coming from the UK… well that says enough, right!

It’s not the first innovation based on the pocket square, earlier I wrote on a different pocket square design. A whole different one, but it’s clear that the market needs more innovation for that good ‘old handkerchief. With different patterns, colours and textiles, Hank is there for the Outlaw, the Chief, The Weekender, the Havemeyer and the Selvager! Load up, put it in your pocket and look sharp!

Next time you receive an invitation with your name on it plus one, you should really consider one of these!

Spotted: Mineheart

14 mei 2014 | By | 3 Comments

Many of you know that I’m a huge fan of British Design. I featured many great UK-based designers on the blog and one thing they all have in common is: daring design. They know that design is creating something different, something out of the ordinary, but they also believe that design can make you smile! And so does this great brand which designs the ‘Lovable Collection’: Mineheart.Their mission, caught in the name, is to express their passion to create freely, without restraint. All Mineheart products are produced in the UK by passionate and local designers. If you look closely to the whole collection you wouldn’t believe that this brand is less than 5 years on the market!

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ineheart was launched in 2010 by the designers Brendan Young & Vanessa Battaglia. They are known for their playful approach to design and innovative re-appropriation of materials and imagery. The brand stole my heart due to their lovable eye for design, daring approach and sense of humor! Get inspired and entertained with a selection of this great brand!

Mineheart-Gold-Kind-Edison-2

Romance meets simplicity. The ‘King Edison’ pendant lamp is a combination of simple Edison light bulb with on the inside a miniature brass chandelier. A lovely and out of the ordinary combination if you ask me!

Mineheart-Gold-Kind-Edison Mineheart-Palace-Wallpaper

Mineheart makes it possible for everyone to have luxury walls. Above you see the Palace wallpaper, below ‘White Bookshelf’ and the ‘White Panelling’. A clean and minimal illusion captured in a wallpaper – fabulous right?

Mineheart-White-bookshelf-Wallpaper

Because Mineheart manufactures everything in the UK, it’s possible to alter accessories to match your home with little extra costs for the buyer. Like the Artistic Cushions below. The print is a classic wooded landscape but it has been altered in a ‘characteristically irreverent fashion’. You can make this cushion your own by choosing the colour of the drip. I would definitely go for Royal Blue or maybe just plain White 🙂

Mineheart-artistic-cushions-Madame-Blush

On the side of the Artistic Cushions you find the ‘vandalized’ portrait of Madame Blush. No it’s not the result of urban street girls, in fact this cheekily defaced French queen is on purpose. Mineheart is full of surprises! Like the detailed ornate frame which is not what it seems; it’s printed! The little ceramic bulldog below is ‘Delf’, a playful twist on classically patterned China. Completed with blue floral transfers and crisp gold details on ears and toes.

Mineheart-cushion-Delf-bulldog

Mineheart-cushion-collection

Meet General Mustard, Lady Peacock, Tom Green and Lord White… These cushions are made for Mineheart by Chad Wys. The ‘classic revisited’ unusual printed portraits are contemporary and traditional. Their names might ring a bell, they’re from Great Expectations, Dorian Grey, Wuthering Heights and even Cluedo!

Mineheart-air-is-not-enough

Rembrandt with a twist
‘Air’ is part of a Renaissance Collection and features a reminiscent of classic Dutch (!) Old Master paintings. The woman is drinking from a large glass of purest swirling air. The gold plated detail on the ornate frame features the title ‘Air is not enough’. Funny wouldn’t you say. The image is is by Himitsuhana and created by the designers of Mineheart.

Mineheart-Cousin-Parker-by-AngelaRossi

Last but not least my personal favourite piece done by Angela Rossi for Mineheart: “Cousin Parker”. An animal portrait series with military details. This quirky gentleman is made with love and a sense of humor. And like Madame Blush; the ornate frame is printed on the canvas. Gotta love what this brand is doing in the world of interior and product design! I’m glad they were brought to my attention!

I hope Mineheart made your day start with a smile too!

More info on Mineheart, go to their website or follow them on Facebook.

Stores in the Netherlands are very rare, only Archipelago in Amsterdam sells this great brand. Fingers-crossed more will follow soon! I’ve put the Archipelago store in Amsterdam on my list for the weekend, hopefully I can spot it myself !
Keep you all posted!

Frame Store; where fashion meets design

2 mei 2014 | By | No Comments

Monumental residence Felix Mertis in Amsterdam is given a new life: Frame Store. Frame Magazine is translated in an actual retail store where fashion meets design. i29 Architects created a 3D-experience of Frame’s vision on interior, product design, fashion and architecture. The Frame Store’s space will host numerous events and even exhibitions organized by both Frame Publishers and FOAM Photography Museum Amsterdam.

The creative platform has opened on April 17 at 324 Keizersgracht in Amsterdam and will surprise and inspire visitors. Between events the Frame Store will stage new talents, new products and new brands from various genres. The space if filled with mirrors which reflects the old and new. The surfaces and products seem to float through space, due to the mirrored side platforms.

The goal of Frame Publishers: “Create a surreal world presenting the products without interfering with the quality of the monumental environment”. Well i29 surely succeeded!! I’m a huge fan of this space where old meets the new, fashion and design float together with art. My next visit to Amsterdam will include a visit to the Frame Store.

Guest post: Ten artists who will give your interior a natural vibe

15 januari 2014 | By | 4 Comments

The first guest post goes to friend, fellow blogger and THE one who ‘seduced’ me to start my own blog: Jantine of Bleaq.com. In 2012 she founded Bleaq and I follow her ever since. Bleaq – I quote – ‘collects visual inspiration focussing on the melancholic, bleak side of traditional art, illustration, design and photography’. Besides blogging we have a lot in common. During our study some called her ‘my evil twin’, because of her love for the art she now shares on her blog. So let’s kick off  with the first guest post. Again thanks Jantine for inspiring me and my readers!

When Johan asked me if I wanted to write a guest-post for Label 1114 I was a bit scared: I don’t know a lot about interior. But when he explained that he was interested in art that could add a little something to a modern-black-and-white-Label-1114-approved interior (he didn’t say it like that of course, but you’ll get my point) I was immediately excited! I really like what art can do with your home, for me art makes a house a home.

Next to my work as a designer I have an art blog called ‘Bleaq’. Three times a week I share the work of artists I love, hopefully getting their work known and loved by my readers. The style and techniques of the featured artists is quite varied – from sculptures to illustration, and from paintings to photography – but the art usually has a dark, melancholic side. Since the beginning of Bleaq to today I featured hundreds of artists, which I had to shrink down to just a few to share with you today.

To shrink the pool of artists a bit I decided to have some rules for this list. One: you should be able to purchase the works displayed immediately. All the works are available at Society6, a great webshop where you can buy prints, apparel and gadgets from thousands of artists from all over the world. The second rule is more a theme than a rule: nature. Lately I’ve been very inspired by several ‘Cabin in the woods’-boards on Pinterest: images from beautiful homes situated in dense pine forests. Living in Rotterdam the fresh air of nature seems a bit far away sometimes, that’s why I decided on a natural theme.

So let’s get going: ten artists who will give your interior a natural vibe, without having to water any plants 😉 Enjoy!
