Sharing my balcony ideas

10 maart 2014 | By | 3 Comments

I enjoyed the sun this weekend. Having breakfast on my balcony was just one of the lovely offers! That made me think to redecorate my balcony. With my previous post ‘balcony inspiration: Dazzling Midsummer Nights’ I already picked up some ideas for the theme, but during a cup of coffee I made a sketch of the new arrangement. Because I’m saving money for something I really do need… (flooring), my budget is a bit tight- but nothing IKEA can’t handle 😉 Yesterday I invited some friends over for a little BBQ and that helped me with finishing the plan. Like adding some lightning and flexible furniture. Subtle, easy and green energy in which the sun will help me out when it’s getting dark.

With a sunny spot on my balcony all day, it’s a very popular spot for inviting friends over. There’s nothing as lovely as having friends over on your own little terrace 🙂 Although my balcony space is around 6m2, there’s room for 4 friends. I now have 2 folding chairs and a table which is a bit limited, so I had to rethink about the flexibility of moving furniture. So here are my balcony ideas and the products ‘shopped’ on IKEA.

Inspired by Street Art #2

5 maart 2014 | By | One Comment

It’s almost like I’m in a blue mood but this piece of street art has been on my mind lately. Unfortunately I didn’t shoot this one by myself, but I love every detail about it. Ghostly shapes, grunge look-and-feel but so intriguing and yet inspiring. Looking at it reminds me a bit of the new Spring Collection by Ferm Living, but also works of the famous baroque and roll duo Jimmie Martin and – earlier mentioned – HK Living. I’ve been looking for a great art piece for months now but this piece of street art is something I would really love to have! Anyways I’ve created a color scheme and collected some brands which popped in my mind while looking at this urban street art. Get inspired by street art from Wide Open Walls in Gambia!

Have you seen the new collection of Danish brand Ferm Living? The new ‘Pen’ collection is where the pen is in charge of the print. This collection with tablecloth and napkins suits the best with this style of street art! See below if you haven’t seen the collection yet. Also from the color scheme I created I picked some grungy textiles from HK Living. A cushion with dripped shapes like the bottom of the street art, and a rug which contains the brightest blue in the whole picture. The Louis All Black by Jimmie Martin adds some class and ‘Fringe’ by Zuiver finish it all.

If you are looking for an edgy color palette, this collage is your cup of tea! Personally I really love it and recently ‘dipped’ my bedroom in this style. Ceiling lamp ‘Fringe’ is luckily on it’s way for my new blue bedroom 🙂

Enjoy this edgy collage inspired by some urban street art from Gambia!

Balcony inspiration: Dazzling midsummer nights by Johan

27 februari 2014 | By | One Comment

Last week Stefanie Broekers inspired you with her version of Dazzling Midsummer Nights – balcony inspiration. I promised you all to accept the challenge to create my own version of ‘Dazzling Midsummer Nights’, with some colours I had in mind for my own balcony. Well I finally exceeded to create a same-feeling-inspirational collage. Values I kept in mind were: relaxation, spend more time with friends and escaping the rush of the city. Stefanie created a soft coloured color scheme with some Moroccan details – and a slightly feminine touch. My scheme is the opposite but still relaxed (nice contrast though! ) Enjoy my version for some balcony inspiration!

It was hard to try to find something with the same ambiance in the whole picture but I think I succeeded. Well, Stefanie thought so and I always appreciate her opinion! My touch is not that masculine, but more industrial. I used the same brands with most of the accessories. Unfortunately the anti-mosquito scent weren’t available in any ‘male’ color… Also the brand ‘It’s all about Romi’ were to feminine for this collage, so I cheated with just one different brand: TULP. TULP got these great BBQ / Brazier barrels I had to add! Friends love BBQ’s 🙂

Well here’s some balcony inspiration with my interpretation of Dazzling Midsummer Nights!

No.19 industrielamp van Olaf Weller voor Het Lichtlab

25 februari 2014 | By | No Comments

Balcony inspiration: Dazzling midsummer nights by Stefanie

20 februari 2014 | By | One Comment

Birds are singing and the sun shows herself more and more these days. Together with interior stylist and friend Stefanie Broekers I was brainstorming for some balcony and garden inspiration. We both picked the lovely garden with a cinema screen and relaxing cushions decorated with lanterns. The trends of last years outdoors where all about ‘the inside out’ – a way to extend your living room. We think that this year it’s more about escaping the city and relax and enjoy and spend more time with friends. A little more cozy and contact with Mother Earth. Natural materials, a little bit of Morocco and soft colors. A more feminine approach, but the one I like. With my new interest in yoga it’s all about taking more time to relax and escaping the rush. With this balcony & garden collage by Stefanie, she gives you some inspiration to create your own dazzling midsummer night!

It’s not fully summer, but with this balcony inspiration you’ll have some time gathering the right ingredients for the outdoors! Although soft colors are not my personal favorite, I got to say I love these products Stefanie pulled together! I still have some own favorites for my own balcony inspiration but I’m going to make it similar to the one below, just to try out different colors and make it more masculine. But the challenge is to create the same setting with different products. I’ll hope to show to you all soon. But first get inspired by Dazzling Midsummer Nights!! Take the ‘Citronella’ Incense to stay mosquito-free on a graceful way. How fun would it be to watch black and white movies on that huge screen – or on someones notebook 🙂

Enjoy a little midsummer breeze!

Guest post: Ten artists who will give your interior a natural vibe

15 januari 2014 | By | 4 Comments

The first guest post goes to friend, fellow blogger and THE one who ‘seduced’ me to start my own blog: Jantine of Bleaq.com. In 2012 she founded Bleaq and I follow her ever since. Bleaq – I quote – ‘collects visual inspiration focussing on the melancholic, bleak side of traditional art, illustration, design and photography’. Besides blogging we have a lot in common. During our study some called her ‘my evil twin’, because of her love for the art she now shares on her blog. So let’s kick off  with the first guest post. Again thanks Jantine for inspiring me and my readers!

When Johan asked me if I wanted to write a guest-post for Label 1114 I was a bit scared: I don’t know a lot about interior. But when he explained that he was interested in art that could add a little something to a modern-black-and-white-Label-1114-approved interior (he didn’t say it like that of course, but you’ll get my point) I was immediately excited! I really like what art can do with your home, for me art makes a house a home.

Next to my work as a designer I have an art blog called ‘Bleaq’. Three times a week I share the work of artists I love, hopefully getting their work known and loved by my readers. The style and techniques of the featured artists is quite varied – from sculptures to illustration, and from paintings to photography – but the art usually has a dark, melancholic side. Since the beginning of Bleaq to today I featured hundreds of artists, which I had to shrink down to just a few to share with you today.

To shrink the pool of artists a bit I decided to have some rules for this list. One: you should be able to purchase the works displayed immediately. All the works are available at Society6, a great webshop where you can buy prints, apparel and gadgets from thousands of artists from all over the world. The second rule is more a theme than a rule: nature. Lately I’ve been very inspired by several ‘Cabin in the woods’-boards on Pinterest: images from beautiful homes situated in dense pine forests. Living in Rotterdam the fresh air of nature seems a bit far away sometimes, that’s why I decided on a natural theme.

So let’s get going: ten artists who will give your interior a natural vibe, without having to water any plants 😉 Enjoy!

Spotted: Studio Nest Rotterdam

23 december 2013 | By | No Comments

27 november 2013 | By | One Comment

Licht in lagen

Brass & Black

24 november 2013 | By | No Comments

One of my favorite combination these days: Brass & Black. I got a little bit inspired by the song of Sam Sparro ‘Black & Gold’, but eventually there were more gold hues I used, and therefore used Brass & Black as a title.

Christmas trends 2013

28 oktober 2013 | By | No Comments

Today I went to ‘de Bijenkorf’ to get me some Clooney coffee. On my way to the Nespresso shop I passed the stylists who were working on the newest Christmas decoration. I was amazed by the different colors and themes of the styling. I spotted some of my favorite brands, like Pols Potten and iittala, and there was one theme that really got my attention, which I really want to share with you. I picked some colors and also found out that the Nespresso cups I bought were most likely the same… So let me share some Livanto, Lungo, Roma and Decaffeinato colors!

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t’s always a pleasure to go and visit The Bijenkorf – the Dutch institution of home, style and living. Although I’m not shopping there for clothes, I never leave the shop empty handed. The top floor it’s like ‘heaven’ to me. All my favorite brands are combined like Pols Potten, iittala, Alessi, PT., Normann Copenhagen and HAY. It’s basically a floor to fulfill my addiction for interior & coffee. Lovely combination, isn’t it 😉 So today I got inspired by a new Christmas theme which I call:

“A passionate masquerade”

Enjoy my Christmas Trends 2013 post and jingle all the way !
