Spotted: Mineheart

Many of you know that I’m a huge fan of British Design. I featured many great UK-based designers on the blog and one thing they all have in common is: daring design. They know that design is creating something different, something out of the ordinary, but they also believe that design can make you smile! And so does this great brand which designs the ‘Lovable Collection’: Mineheart.Their mission, caught in the name, is to express their passion to create freely, without restraint. All Mineheart products are produced in the UK by passionate and local designers. If you look closely to the whole collection you wouldn’t believe that this brand is less than 5 years on the market!

[dropcap]M[/dropcap]ineheart was launched in 2010 by the designers Brendan Young & Vanessa Battaglia. They are known for their playful approach to design and innovative re-appropriation of materials and imagery. The brand stole my heart due to their lovable eye for design, daring approach and sense of humor! Get inspired and entertained with a selection of this great brand!

Romance meets simplicity. The ‘King Edison’ pendant lamp is a combination of simple Edison light bulb with on the inside a miniature brass chandelier. A lovely and out of the ordinary combination if you ask me!

Mineheart-Gold-Kind-Edison Mineheart-Palace-Wallpaper

Mineheart makes it possible for everyone to have luxury walls. Above you see the Palace wallpaper, below ‘White Bookshelf’ and the ‘White Panelling’. A clean and minimal illusion captured in a wallpaper – fabulous right?

Because Mineheart manufactures everything in the UK, it’s possible to alter accessories to match your home with little extra costs for the buyer. Like the Artistic Cushions below. The print is a classic wooded landscape but it has been altered in a ‘characteristically irreverent fashion’. You can make this cushion your own by choosing the colour of the drip. I would definitely go for Royal Blue or maybe just plain White 🙂

On the side of the Artistic Cushions you find the ‘vandalized’ portrait of Madame Blush. No it’s not the result of urban street girls, in fact this cheekily defaced French queen is on purpose. Mineheart is full of surprises! Like the detailed ornate frame which is not what it seems; it’s printed! The little ceramic bulldog below is ‘Delf’, a playful twist on classically patterned China. Completed with blue floral transfers and crisp gold details on ears and toes.

Meet General Mustard, Lady Peacock, Tom Green and Lord White… These cushions are made for Mineheart by Chad Wys. The ‘classic revisited’ unusual printed portraits are contemporary and traditional. Their names might ring a bell, they’re from Great Expectations, Dorian Grey, Wuthering Heights and even Cluedo!

Rembrandt with a twist
‘Air’ is part of a Renaissance Collection and features a reminiscent of classic Dutch (!) Old Master paintings. The woman is drinking from a large glass of purest swirling air. The gold plated detail on the ornate frame features the title ‘Air is not enough’. Funny wouldn’t you say. The image is is by Himitsuhana and created by the designers of Mineheart.

Last but not least my personal favourite piece done by Angela Rossi for Mineheart: “Cousin Parker”. An animal portrait series with military details. This quirky gentleman is made with love and a sense of humor. And like Madame Blush; the ornate frame is printed on the canvas. Gotta love what this brand is doing in the world of interior and product design! I’m glad they were brought to my attention!

I hope Mineheart made your day start with a smile too!

More info on Mineheart, go to their website or follow them on Facebook.

Stores in the Netherlands are very rare, only Archipelago in Amsterdam sells this great brand. Fingers-crossed more will follow soon! I’ve put the Archipelago store in Amsterdam on my list for the weekend, hopefully I can spot it myself !
Keep you all posted!

Happy Mothersday all!

// The Love Explotion, Fantasy Collection Lladró by Jaime Hayon

Normally I’m not that into ‘commercial days’ full of marketing tricks that stimulate you to buy a lot for your mom – only on this particular day. I’m more of the in-between surprises 🙂
But, like may others I think, I’m going to visit my mom and dad this weekend!

To stay in the ‘art’ feeling this week on the blog, a piece of fun art by the great creator and joker Jaime Hayon!

Have a great weekend!

Fancy Friday: Caged Lightning

Monday I sold my bow lamp which took a lot space in the home and wasn’t flexible to move around with my drive to redecorate my home. Ever since I bought Fringe by Zuiver, I look out for different lamps than the standard shapes. In my search for a new lamp my eye dropped on a lot of beautiful ceiling lamps and pendants. These caged lightning objects are a work of art and mostly in brass, metal or copper. I really fancy the industrial diamond shaped ones – which you see a lot lately. In this Fancy Friday post I collected my favorites, including a table frame by House Doctor I adore. What I love most about these iron caged lightning is that they look ‘airy’. I fancy the Diamond Pendant by JSPR for Pols Potten the most – in black of course! What’s your personal favorite?

[ 1 ] Diamonds by JSPR for Pols Potten // [ 2 ] Work lamp by Design House Stockholm // [ 3 ] Living Lab by HK Living // [ 4 ] DecoHome by House Doctor // [ 5 ] Copper Pendant by Bloomingville

It’s a lot better than the old work lamp you see on construction sites. Can’t wait to see these on new building platforms in an industrial space with bricks and lots of concrete. Would be fun 🙂

Enjoy your weekend!

Dark luxury with black and brass

If there’s one color combination I never thought I would love, it’s the combination of black and gold (brass). My kitchen is partly black and gold and I ‘hated’ it when I moved in, but now I even decorated it with a golden Singing Bird by Pols Potten. So today I share my love for this color combination which I define as ‘Dark Luxury’. This color combination is something I relate to the old Pharaohs and Cleopatra. Recently examples are found by great creators like Daft Punk in the music world and Studio Job in interior design.

Enjoy black and brass in style, fashion, music videos, interior and exterior.

Fancy Friday: Triangle Cushions

It’s all about graphic prints nowadays. Geometric pointy shapes in soft colors decorate many couches and are featured in various look books of all the famous brands. On this Fancy Friday I highlight a selection of triangle cushions from brands like Bloomingville, Ferm Living and Snurk. As a designer I’m fond of geometric prints and this selection of cushions show a variety of different patterns – from subtle to fully covered cushions.  Fall in love with triangles and shop your personal favorite! Fancy Friday!

Triangles have never been as hot as they are now in interior design. Triangle cushions add new dimensions to your couch, bed or outside on your garden furniture. The combination of sharp edged triangles and the soft colors create an awesome contrast. My personal favorite is the minty cushion by Bloomingville, where triangles are arranged in a subtle path over the cushion. Dutch brand ‘Snurk’ even added a bevel of triangle shapes that give a 3D-effect. The twin sisters of Dutch brand LileSadi are so in love with triangles that they even covered their website with soft triangles.

Happy Friday and enjoy your weekend!

Fancy Friday: Extraordinary Vases

Flowers, each week new flowers. I just love flowers, mostly the different ‘tropical’ ones which don’t look that common. Or thistles, which are not that much of a flower – but I like them! I don’t like roses but I appreciate tulips. Besides the right flowers, I love extraordinary vases because together with the right flower it’s almost a piece of art. I recently bought a partly concrete partly ceramic vase of House Doctor for my new blue bedroom. I also own a vase in the shape of a cactus and one looking like a reversed lightbulb. On this Fancy Friday I selected a list of extraordinary vases I would love to add to my home for the perfect still life. I added one flower pot of Madam Stoltz from the Spring 2014 collection: Geometrics, in which I would love to add several flowers. My personal favorite: the paper vase by Pepe Heykoop.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]oday it’s time for flowers to celebrate LABEL1114′ 1st birthday! I selected the latest vases with extraordinary shapes, like the Golden Gun vase by Bloomingville and the Bestow vase by Areaware. Although I don’t like violence, this design vase gives guns a whole new dimension. SUCK UK surprised me earlier with their combined gun vase, which you can see in my post on The Black Apartment by Cindy Gallop. These selected vases are true eye catchers and in monochromic colors and different materials.

My own extraordinary vases are the House Doctor concrete vase and the cactus shaped vase – approach with caution! But I would love to add the Paper Vase by Pepe Heykoop to my collection.

Enjoy my top 5 of extraordinary vases and get inspired by a different approach on home decoration!

AeroBull by Jarre features a 5.25 inch subwoofer, equipped with an iPhone/iPod dock and Bluetooth for wireless streaming. Available in 5 colors: glossy red, glossy white, glossy silver, glossy gold an matt black. My personal favorite: matt black.
